Lieutenant Alexander E. Finkle began his corrections career in 1975 at the Maplehurst Correctional Centre. He continued his career moving to the Waterloo Detention Centre in Cambridge. He again moved to the Brantford Jail where he was a Lieutenant.

 

Alex was married to Marylee, and they had two sons.

 

On Wednesday 18 July 1990 Alex was on duty as a Lieutenant at the Brantford Jail. At about 11:00 a.m. (1100 hours) he was escorting inmate David Wolfe from the second floor, down the back stairway, to the A & D section of the Jail.

 

Along the way the inmate punched Finkle on the left side of the face. Finkle fell to the floor. The inmate continued to punch and kick the Officer a number of times.

 

Lieutenant Finkle received severe damage to his head and face that caused him continual difficulties thereafter. He underwent surgery in London, and saw numerous doctors during the years after the assault. Five aneurysms were also found.

 

Inmate Wolfe was found guilty of Assault Bodily Harm, and received a sentence of 2 years in penitentiary consecutive to time he was serving.

 

After a long absence Alex returned to work in scheduling. He continued having health problems, and finally had to stop work.

 

On Saturday 26 August 2000 Alex E. Finkle died from a brain aneurysm.

 

There was a large funeral including Corrections Honour Guard for him in Galt, Ontario.

 

Alex was buried at the Memory Gardens Cemetery.
